Class Descriptions

adult classes

Through classic hatha poses and contemporary movements students will develop body awareness, strength, flexibility and balance. With an emphasis on mindfulness and the integration of breath with movement, students will learn to make self-adjustments to accomodate their specific postural needs and to create safe transitions through dynamic sequences (vinyasa). Relaxation and meditation techniques are offered to encourage self-study and well-being.

The Yoga Journey for Beginners & Beyond [YJBB] invites students to explore yoga as a practice for resolution and renewal. Inspired by the teachings of Angeles Arrien [Four-fold Way], this workshop creatively balances asana and music with the four postures of meditation (standing, lying, walking & sitting) to introduce students to the joyful, contemplative and constantly evolving spirit of yoga.

Chair Yoga for Seniors [CYS] offers gentle movements and relaxation techniques to help develop breath/body awareness, to tone the body and to relieve some of the tension associated with arthritis/joint stiffness.

Yoga Clinic [YC] Each week this workshop will be dedicated to a specific part of the anatomy (such as the hips, shoulders, and abdominals) to help students address certain physical imbalances and introduce a range of poses and their modifications to strengthen and relieve tension in the body.

Yoga for Meditation
[YM] takes a simple approach to demystifying the practice of meditation, making it more accessible for beginning practitioners: steady breath, steady mind, steady body.  This class will introduce gentle asana to address the physical tensions that may hinder one’s ability to hold the body steady; meditation postures and modifications to suit the individual; as well as breathing/relaxation techniques and other tools to develop one’s focus.

Yoga for Teens
[YFT] helps teens and teen athletes (13 - 17 years old) to enhance strength, endurance, flexibility coordination and balance and to develop a sense of physical alignment in order to reduce the risk of injury.
